MOCS contemporary figurative drawing charcoal on paper: persistent instinctive presence
From the first encounter, Hound resists distant observation and asserts itself as a presence that occupies the viewer's mental space. The figure seems to advance without moving, charged with tension and silence. In this work, MOCS builds an experience where gesture prevails over form and emotion outweighs anatomy. MOCS contemporary figurative drawing charcoal on paper appears here as a direct exploration of instinct, of the body understood as contained energy, connecting expressive drawing, contemporary figuration, and a dark atmosphere of sustained intensity.
Charcoal on paper: unease in contained motion
The use of charcoal creates a vibrating surface, marked by nervous strokes and superimposed layers that never seek stability. Dense blacks and deep grays dominate the composition, while the white of the paper breaks through like a forced breath. The figure seems to build itself and dissolve at the same time, generating an unstable visual rhythm. This work aligns with searches related to contemporary drawing, expressive figurative art, and black-and-white artwork, where texture, gesture, and material sustain a sense of constant vigilance.
Contemporary figuration: instinct versus control
What is represented here is not a recognizable animal, but an archetype. Hound functions as a symbol of what pursues from within: impulse, obsession, constant alertness. The disproportion of the body and the fragility of the limbs contrast with the oppressive weight of the torso, creating a tension that remains even after the viewer looks away. This contemporary figuration does not narrate—it accompanies; it does not explain—it stays. The drawing becomes an emotional experience that resonates with persistent fears and extreme forms of loyalty.
MOCS charcoal: gesture as an authorial signature
MOCS's signature is evident in the insistent, almost compulsive stroke, where error is part of the process and the final form is never fully closed. The work subtly dialogues with the visual energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat, through its raw gesture, psychological tension, and the figure treated as an emotional battleground. Born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, and a graduate of the Botticelli Institute in fine arts and restoration, the artist has developed a solid practice centered on contemporary figuration. Hound, created in 2025 in charcoal on paper and measuring 40 × 50 cm, is an original artwork, a unique piece, and a signed work, conceived to coexist with its collector as a constant presence.

Born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, and a graduate of the Botticelli Institute for Art and Restoration with a degree in Fine Arts, his interest in art began through a fascination with comics, films, and rock music. The catharsis of expressing disruptive emotions led him to find in art an ideal channel of expression. His work is the result of a journey through intangible emotions, guided by the need to communicate feelings and anxieties rooted in universal themes. He understands the act of creation as a raw and spontaneous experience, strongly influenced by movements such as Art Brut, Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Expressionism, and by artists including Jean Dubuffet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Rufino Tamayo. Elements such as color, gesture, line, point, figure, and texture function as tools to construct a deeply personal aesthetic experience, inviting the viewer to accompany him on this journey and to connect with their own emotions and inner concerns.
