Description
MOCS contemporary symbolic painting mixed media on canvas: symbol and contained tension
There are images you don't simply look at—you confront them. In this piece by MOCS, presence is not decorative; it is a contained energy vibrating in front of the viewer. MOCS contemporary symbolic painting mixed media on canvas asserts itself as a contemporary artwork where gesture and material construct an icon pierced by noise. It moves between gestural painting, contemporary figuration, and expressive texture, activating the space from the very first glance.
Mixed media on canvas: warm matter and earthy vibration
The surface breathes. The mixed media on canvas technique allows visible layers, scratches, and drips in ochre, burnt orange, and deep brown tones. The pictorial texture creates a warm yet restless atmosphere, where the reddish contour both defines and tensions the form. It is a large-scale contemporary painting that transforms the wall into an emotional field, with free gestural marks and tangible material presence.
Contemporary figuration: primitive symbol and current chaos
Here the image is reduced to its most essential state, almost like an ancestral sign. The work operates within contemporary symbolic painting and contemporary figurative art to present a clear contrast: the idea of peace against inner noise. It is not a literal representation, but an icon interrupted by impulsive lines crossing its interior. That duality remains; it stays with the viewer as an open question about the fragility of symbols in the present.
MOCS mixed media on canvas: gesture and visual identity
MOCS's signature is recognized in the firm, almost primitive line and in the accumulation of layers that evoke memory and erosion. The work subtly dialogues with Jean-Michel Basquiat in its raw gesture and symbolic intensity. Born in Cuernavaca and trained at the Botticelli Institute in fine arts and restoration, the artist combines technical grounding with urban energy. Created in mixed media on canvas, in a square 100x100 cm format in 2025, this original artwork and unique piece consolidates a powerful visual identity within contemporary art; it is also a signed work that holds presence and character in any collection.
Presentation
Born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, and a graduate of the Botticelli Institute for Art and Restoration with a degree in Fine Arts, his interest in art began through a fascination with comics, films, and rock music. The catharsis of expressing disruptive emotions led him to find in art an ideal channel of expression. His work is the result of a journey through intangible emotions, guided by the need to communicate feelings and anxieties rooted in universal themes. He understands the act of creation as a raw and spontaneous experience, strongly influenced by movements such as Art Brut, Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Expressionism, and by artists including Jean Dubuffet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Rufino Tamayo. Elements such as color, gesture, line, point, figure, and texture function as tools to construct a deeply personal aesthetic experience, inviting the viewer to accompany him on this journey and to connect with their own emotions and inner concerns.
