Description
“Advice to Self" presents a surreal scene dominated by an oversized hand, emerging from the right, wearing a checkered sleeve. The hand gently cradles a small, naked figure sitting pensively on its palm, suggesting themes of protection or vulnerability. Set against a vibrant, grassy field, the juxtaposition of scale is striking and thought-provoking. Above, the sky is alive with streaking meteors, imbuing the piece with a sense of urgency or impending change. The bold use of color and exaggerated proportions capture attention, while the meticulous detail in the hand's texture underscores the artist's skill. This intriguing composition challenges perceptions of power, security, and existential contemplation, inviting viewers to ponder their place in the universe.
Presentation
Born NYC. Lives and works in Nîmes, south of France. Robert is a contemporary oil painter and sculptor creating subtly surreal contemporary figurative works that explore themes of identity, social facades, and the human condition in our digital age. His practice merges classical techniques with modern disruptions, characterised by layered surfaces, impasto technique and juxtapositions of fragility and strength. Robert examines society through narratives and fragmented daydreams, often employing digital methods fused with traditional media. Notable series include the Paris Metro collection (2024), which documents urban interactions through a contemporary flâneur's lens, and Cassandra Complex (2024), a darkly humorous critique of modern socio-political issues using restrained colour palettes and digital aesthetic elements. His sculptural practice explores organic forms in clay, resin, and marble.
Robert Inestroza has exhibited at Paris's Salon d'Automne (2025 and 2024), and Brighton's SEAS Gallery (2023), with works featured in Art Fluent Gallery's exhibitions (2021-2023). His practice gained recognition through Le prix Lelivredart / Salon d'automne 2025 and finalist placements in the Prisma Art Prize (2021, 2022), as well as inclusion in the Quay Street Gallery Exhibition Catalogue (2021). His works are held in private collections across Europe and North America.
