Description
A moment of blissful quiet. A young lady reclines in a state of total surrender. The body sinks into the plush fabric of an ornate French armchair. Soft light filters through sheer curtains. It creates a hazy, ethereal atmosphere. The composition balances classical grace with a subtle, modern tension.
The artist employs a sophisticated impasto technique. Layered oil paint adds tactile depth to the scene. A muted palette emphasizes the fragility of the human form. The blue of the dress contrasts gently with the warmth of the skin. Every brushstroke captures a sense of exhaustion or deep contemplation.
This artwork explores the complexities of the human condition. It suggests a narrative of fragmented daydreams and interior solitude. The juxtaposition of the rigid furniture and the limp posture evokes a feeling of vulnerability. It is a study of identity in a moment of absolute quiet. The gaze is directed away from the viewer. The focus remains on the rhythmic lines of the limbs and the soft textures of the room.
Presentation
Born NYC. Lives and works in Nîmes, south of France. Robert is a contemporary oil painter and sculptor creating subtly surreal contemporary figurative works that explore themes of identity, social facades, and the human condition in our digital age. His practice merges classical techniques with modern disruptions, characterised by layered surfaces, impasto technique and juxtapositions of fragility and strength. Robert examines society through narratives and fragmented daydreams, often employing digital methods fused with traditional media. Notable series include the Paris Metro collection (2024), which documents urban interactions through a contemporary flâneur's lens, and Cassandra Complex (2024), a darkly humorous critique of modern socio-political issues using restrained colour palettes and digital aesthetic elements. His sculptural practice explores organic forms in clay, resin, and marble.
Robert Inestroza has exhibited at Paris's Salon d'Automne (2025 and 2024), and Brighton's SEAS Gallery (2023), with works featured in Art Fluent Gallery's exhibitions (2021-2023). His practice gained recognition through Le prix Lelivredart / Salon d'automne 2025 and finalist placements in the Prisma Art Prize (2021, 2022), as well as inclusion in the Quay Street Gallery Exhibition Catalogue (2021). His works are held in private collections across Europe and North America.
