Description
This artwork masterfully captures a rustic harbor scene with distinctive abstract techniques. Dominated by earthy browns and muted tones, the composition is punctuated by lively splashes of color, evoking a sense of vibrant energy. The brushstrokes are robust and confident, creating texture and depth that suggest wooden docks and moored boats. Above, a collection of quaint, angular structures—perhaps cottages or warehouses—sit atop, their white facades illuminated against the earthy hues. The lower portion transitions into a tranquil water body, depicted in soft blues and whites, reflecting the scene above with an impressionistic flair. The interplay between abstract forms and recognizable elements invites the viewer to explore this harmonious blend of reality and imagination. Each color and stroke seems deliberately placed, capturing both the tranquility and liveliness of a bustling harbor town, making it an intriguing piece of art.
Presentation
Michael Hill an artist from Plymouth has always had a love of drawing and a fascination for the painted image as far back as he can remember. After leaving school he studied art and graphic design, but quickly became aware that illustration and fine arts were the subjects he wanted to pursue. Shortly after leaving college he worked for some years as a freelance illustrator before taking up painting full time.
My paintings have become more abstract of late but it is important to me to convey a strong sense of place together with an air of mystery. Coming from fragments of memory, the painting surface is built up through layers of colour, sometimes leaving previous areas of paint exposed, maybe to indicate the history of the work.
