Description
“Solum Fac Id" portrays a youthful figure cloaked in a yellow hooded jacket, exuding an enigmatic Baroque intensity. His piercing gaze locks onto the viewer, while his hands cradle a lit match, casting a warm, flickering light across his determined features. The dim glow vividly contrasts with the dark, star-speckled backdrop, suggesting a narrative teetering between vulnerability and defiant resilience. The texture of the fabric and the realistic folds in his clothing add depth, enhancing the tangible quality of the scene. The artist masterfully utilizes chiaroscuro to emphasize the interplay of light and shadow, creating a mood that is both intimate and mysterious. This vivid portrayal challenges the observer to delve into the story behind the solitary flame and the contemplative figure holding it.
Presentation
Born NYC. Lives and works in Nîmes, south of France. Robert is a contemporary oil painter and sculptor creating subtly surreal contemporary figurative works that explore themes of identity, social facades, and the human condition in our digital age. His practice merges classical techniques with modern disruptions, characterised by layered surfaces, impasto technique and juxtapositions of fragility and strength. Robert examines society through narratives and fragmented daydreams, often employing digital methods fused with traditional media. Notable series include the Paris Metro collection (2024), which documents urban interactions through a contemporary flâneur's lens, and Cassandra Complex (2024), a darkly humorous critique of modern socio-political issues using restrained colour palettes and digital aesthetic elements. His sculptural practice explores organic forms in clay, resin, and marble.
Robert Inestroza has exhibited at Paris's Salon d'Automne (2025 and 2024), and Brighton's SEAS Gallery (2023), with works featured in Art Fluent Gallery's exhibitions (2021-2023). His practice gained recognition through Le prix Lelivredart / Salon d'automne 2025 and finalist placements in the Prisma Art Prize (2021, 2022), as well as inclusion in the Quay Street Gallery Exhibition Catalogue (2021). His works are held in private collections across Europe and North America.
