Chic & Choc, 2026

Isabelle Scheltjens

Isabelle creates portraits that fluctuate between intimacy and distance. Years of observing how human faces express, withhold, and reveal laid the foundation.
Meticulously chosen by the artist, each tiny fragment catches the light in its own way. This creates a vibrant interplay of color and shimmer that breathes depth and vitality into the artwork. From afar, the woman seems to radiate an inner glow, as if enveloped in a luminous halo that commands attention in any space.

This artwork presents a striking mosaic portrait of a woman blowing a bubble with gum, merging pop art sensibility with modern digital aesthetics. Composed of meticulously arranged multicolored tiles, the piece captures the viewer with its playful yet bold design. Each tile contributes to the intricate detailing of the woman's expressive eyes and the translucent, vivid blue bubble. The interplay of light and shadow across her face is ingeniously achieved through varying tile shades, adding depth and dimension. The unique use of geometric shapes highlights the artist's innovative approach to reimagining portraiture, blending traditional mosaic techniques with a contemporary twist. The juxtaposition of soft facial features against the rigid structure of the tiles offers a dynamic visual experience, rendering this artwork a captivating fusion of classic and modern artistic expressions.
