Warm Distance, 2026

Zakhar Shevchuk

Warm Distance presents a compelling continuation of Zakhar Shevchuk's exploration of the bathtub as a symbolic space, now enriched by the presence of two human figures. Their softly defined silhouettes introduce a sense of narrative, yet the painting resists a straightforward reading. Instead of direct interaction, the figures exist side by side within a shared environment, creating a subtle emotional tension that draws the viewer in.

The composition is dominated by a warm, luminous palette, where shades of yellow and muted green are layered through expressive brushwork, washes, and vertical drips. This approach gives the painting both depth and movement, recalling the material richness of Anselm Kiefer and the blurred, atmospheric qualities found in Gerhard Richter's work. The interplay between structure and abstraction keeps the image in a constant state of transformation.

Beyond its visual appeal, Warm Distance resonates on an emotional level. The shared space becomes a metaphor for relationships – suggesting closeness that is not fully realized, and presence that does not necessarily imply connection. This delicate balance between warmth and separation makes the painting particularly engaging, offering collectors a work that is both visually striking and conceptually layered.
