Description
“Quickening" is made by applying acrylic paint over a textured canvas beaten with yew, branches, and painted with tarnished metallics and mica. The painting is mounted on a stretcher but could be removed to ship the canvas rolled in a tube, if that's more convenient. Ron Mills says: "In an era increasingly mediated by the frictionless digital interface, human consciousness has succumbed to what contemporary neuro-aesthetics define as a "controlled hallucination". To conserve biological energy, our brains project safe, static grids and pre-packaged concepts onto the wildness of being. My current work in the studio is a radical dissent against this flattening of the world"
Presentation
Ron Mills-Pinyas' paintings point to what in creation is, fragile, even possibly frail in a world of powerful simmering explosions of colour and beautiful molecular sub-realities. The delicate and sometimes daunting balance in nature we sense when we see Mills-Pinyas's best work has nothing to do with insubstantiality, but rather his work evokes what is truly essential, uncovering the fundamental nature of being, what is beyond individual parts to show true essence. We see organic raw material mingled to become enigmatic organisms with self will.
