Description
The Space Between – Titanium is a striking contemporary mixed-media portrait by Sophie Derrick, exploring themes of identity, transformation and self-perception. Combining photography, painting and sculpture, Derrick uses her own face as both subject and canvas, creating a work that moves beyond traditional portraiture.
Printed onto acrylic and reworked with expressive layers of paint, the artwork balances a luminous surface with rich texture and depth. Metallic tones and partially obscured features create a sense of ambiguity, encouraging viewers to engage with the work on both a visual and emotional level.
Blurring the boundaries between self-portrait, abstract portraiture and mixed-media art, exemplifies Derrick's innovative practice, where photography and painting merge to create a bold and highly collectible contemporary artwork.
Presentation
Sophie Derrick is a British artist whose work is a combination of photography and painting.
Sophie paints on her own body and then takes a picture which she then retouches with paint. She is therefore her own support, giving her work an unusual approach this way. Several layers of paint are superimposed, merging with the photography and its object. The artist covers the tracks with bright and fresh colors, in order to create an abstract artwork.
The portraits that she depicts are immersed in paint, transforming themselves in colored entities.
