Description
This captivating artwork presents a dynamic and colorful depiction of two abstract, humanoid figures engaged in an apparent dialogue. Their heads, outlined in bold white lines, are filled with vibrant, contrasting shapes and patterns. The left figure's head is crowned with vivid orange and yellow spikes, reminiscent of a blazing sun. Both figures have oversized, expressive red and purple mouths, suggesting conversation or confrontation. Their eyes are large, geometric, and strikingly white against the dark, textured background. Intricate teal patterns occupy the scalp area, hinting at thoughts or brain activity. The use of bright colors against the stark black backdrop creates a striking visual impact, emphasizing the characters' animated expressions and interaction. This piece boldly explores communication through abstract anatomy and vivid color contrasts, inviting viewers to interpret the narrative unfolding between the figures.
Presentation
Paul Sergounine is a contemporary artist currently based in Tbilisi, Georgia. Working primarily with oil stick and oil pastel on acrylic ground on canvas, Sergounine develops large-scale paintings through systems of accumulation, interruption, structural imbalance, and controlled reduction. His practice focuses on the tension between order and instability, constructing visual languages that operate between architecture, abstraction, and symbolic fragmentation. Recurring bodies of work such as Mind Mechanics and Totems are conceived as evolving systems rather than isolated images. Through repetition, compression, erosion, and interference, Sergounine investigates how structures emerge, destabilize, and reconstruct themselves over time.Born in Moscow and raised in Düsseldorf, Sergounine’s international background and cross-disciplinary experience inform a practice centered around pressure, displacement, and systemic transformation. His works are held in private collections internationally.
