Description
When the Light Stayed is an original oil painting by British contemporary artist Ed Sumner, renowned for his dramatic skylines, luminous horizons and breathtaking skies. Inspired by the ever-changing views across London, Sumner's work captures those fleeting moments when light transforms the landscape into something unforgettable.
Dominated by vibrant tones, the painting celebrates the spectacle of a sky suspended between day and night. Layers of colour and expressive brushwork create a sense of movement and atmosphere, while the distant skyline anchors the composition beneath an expansive and radiant sky. Sumner's distinctive approach allows light to become the true subject of the work, filling the scene with energy, warmth and wonder.
Balancing contemporary landscape painting with an intensity of colour, evokes the feeling of witnessing a perfect sunset that lingers just a little longer than expected. Rich in colour, scale and atmosphere, the work is a striking example of Sumner's celebrated sky-scapes and his ability to transform familiar views into extraordinary moments.
