Blue Ripple, 2025

Ed Sumner

This is an original oil painting by British contemporary artist Ed Sumner, celebrated for his dramatic skyscapes, luminous horizons and vibrant city landscapes. Part of his acclaimed exploration of London's ever-changing skyline, the work captures a fleeting moment where light, atmosphere and colour combine to create something extraordinary.

Dominated by rich blues illuminated with vibrant accents of pink, purple and warm orange, the painting evokes the sensation of light rippling across the sky. Sumner's expressive brushwork and layered application of paint create depth, movement and energy throughout the composition, while the distant skyline provides a subtle anchor beneath the expansive heavens.

Balancing the drama of nature with the familiarity of the urban landscape, transforms a recognisable city view into an immersive and almost dreamlike experience. The painting celebrates those brief moments when the sky becomes the true spectacle, filling the horizon with colour, atmosphere and wonder.

Rich in light, movement and emotion, is a striking example of Sumner's distinctive contemporary style and his ability to turn everyday views into unforgettable visual experiences.
