Description
This striking work juxtaposes the innocence of childhood and social complexity. A child, dressed casually, aims a pink water pistol at a seagull that, curiously, wears a captain's hat. The contrast between the seriousness of the bird's uniform and the child's playful attitude creates a visual and narrative tension. The use of black and white with a touch of pink accentuates this duality, reinforcing the ambiguous message of play and authority. The minimalist background, punctuated by shades of gray, highlights the subjects and invites reflection on the themes of power and innocence. Charlotte Parenteau-Denoel is a French artist who specializesin hand-made photographic compositions without ever using any kind of photo editing software such as Photoshop.
Inspired by the Surrealists (especially Magritte) and Conceptual Art, she plays with the association of things to create puns and mind games. In her „Canned“ series targets mass production, consumption and homogenization of goods, without ever losing a witty touch.
