Description
A meditative exploration of space and memory. This abstract artwork employs a sophisticated blend of acrylics and mixed media on canvas. The composition breathes through a soft, atmospheric gradient. Pale whites dominate the upper register. They suggest a distant horizon or a fading light. Below, deep indigos and charcoal tones anchor the image. These dark hues create a sense of depth and mystery.
The surface is tactile. Subtle grids emerge through the layers. They evoke the structure of architectural blueprints or old maps. The application of paint is intuitive. It oscillates between translucent washes and dense, textured impasto. This contrast generates a rhythmic tension across the canvas. The viewer is invited into a silent dialogue with the void. Each brushstroke feels like a whispered thought. The piece captures a fleeting moment of stillness. It transforms a static plane into a living landscape of emotion. The interplay of light and shadow guides the eye toward the center. A final touch of luminosity pierces the darkness in the lower quadrant.
Presentation
With a long list of successful exhibits that span over 20 years and collectors worldwide, Laura's paintings are described as beautifully imperfect. Often large in scale with strikingly bold colours and texture, each piece offers discovery. Her process is rooted in memory and imagination, and her emotions are palpable. When she's at work, Harris becomes utterly engrossed in her practice. It's a fully physical task with music turned up loud and paint flying. Laura applies the same love and abandon to all other areas of her life.
Harris' is a positive oeuvre, but there are contrasts in texture and hue that suggest the opposition of forces. Exuberant, sensual, and often surprising, Laura's images are known and prized for their irresistible energy. Her relationship with light has been compared to that of Turner.
Laura currently lives in Victoria, BC. Her work is collected globally and exhibited in galleries across Canada. Corporate clients include Mercedes Benz, The Ritz Carlton, The Keg and Canaccord, to name a few.
