Awakening to Routine, 2026

Mari Ito   Famous Artists

“Awakening to Routine" unfolds as a symmetrical dance of organic forms. Soft curves intertwine in a balanced composition. Pale yellows and deep blues contrast against a warm ochre background. Mari Ito explores the tension between bold structures and delicate lines. Every shape feels alive. A central floral motif radiates outward like a kaleidoscope. Small dots and rhythmic patterns add a layer of meticulous precision. The eye wanders through these fluid contours. Each curve guides the viewer toward a new discovery. This artwork balances traditional harmony with a contemporary spirit. It invites a slow and deep observation. The precision of the brushwork creates a sense of meditative order. Light tones blend seamlessly into saturated hues. The composition mirrors a natural bloom captured in a stylized moment. It is a study of repetition and variation. The visual rhythm evokes a feeling of calm yet vibrant energy. Every element contributes to a cohesive and immersive atmosphere. The piece concludes with fine details scattered across the golden field.

Much of Mari Ito's work is autobiographical. Among the strikingly colourful kaleidoscopic symmetry, she talks of personal desires and feelings. Ito, in her metallic gold swim suit can often be found diving in and out of her symbolic flowers. Having grown up and studied art in Japan her visual language bears those cultural hallmarks. Living in Barcelona since 2006, Ito's unique bicultural approach encompasses Nihonga, the traditional Japanese style of painting, layering mineral pigments and sumi ink on washi paper, with an air of Mediterranean storytelling freedom and humour. Mari Ito has exhibited extensively from Tokyo, Barcelona, Istanbul, Palermo and Basel to Mumbai at notable art fairs and galleries, and has collaborated with renowned brands such as Lilien Berg (2016), Bershka (2017), Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) in Barcelona's Universitat Metro Station (2017) and Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi (2018). She has also exhibited at the Royal Botanical Garden Madrid and Gaudí's Casa Vicens, Barcelona.
