Description
A man with a marked profile comes alive in this graphic composition. His yellow jacket immediately attracts the eye. It contrasts with dark trousers with vertical stripes. The attitude is that of a storyteller or a guide. A raised finger emphasizes his speech. Beside him, a black dog waits patiently. The animal silhouette brings a touch of tenderness and loyalty. A pink bicycle completes the scene. This object introduces a notion of movement and daily simplicity.
The neutral background highlights the warm tones of the character. The whole exudes a light and witty atmosphere.
The artist plays with proportions to accentuate the character's character. This approach brings to life a unique character. It is distinguished by its balance between humor and visual elegance.
Presentation
Béatrice Terra was born in Saint-Etienne. She lives and works in Montbrison, Loire. She studied advertising and worked for several years in agencies, but never abandoned her passion, and took painting courses in Saint-Etienne, in Serge Brossy's studio.
In 2002, she moved to the South of France and started teaching visual arts courses. She started exhibiting her work and in 2007 moved back to the Saint-Etienne region where she opened her own studio.
Béatrice Terra paints mostly men and their portraits. She doesn't want to be distracted by colors, so her palette is simple and she leaves out details that might blurr the lisibility of her paintings or drawings.
Men (in the masculine sense of the word) move her through their sensitivity. She paints men that come of of nowhere, she never has models. Béatrice Terra gets to know them little by little, as she paints them. She is only at the beginning of this subjects that fascinates her.
