Description
Provenance : Estate Baron-Renouard
Abstraction se saisit de la toile avec une énergie brute. The gesture is free. The material accumulates in successive layers, creating a tactile and dense relief. Areas of deep red contrast with shades of cold blue and dull mauve.
The eye circulates between areas of transparency and areas of opacity. Vertical drips come to rhythm the composition, bringing a temporal dimension to the work. White intervenes in jerky touches, like flashes of light passing through a stormy sky.
Balance arises from the tension between apparent chaos and control of the line. Organic forms are drawn without ever freezing. A pale yellow circle brings a chromatic breath into the right angle, stabilizing the entire scene. The grainy texture of the support accentuates the organic character of this composition. Each superposition reveals a visual depth where colors intertwine and respond to each other. The final rendering oscillates between expressionism and formal research.
Presentation
The Philosophical Colorist
"I paint the wind, space, the sea, the horizons."
François Baron-Renouard is a pure, visceral colorist who has found the perfect balance between strength and nuance.
Close to lyrical abstraction, he develops a universe made of chromatic masses in tension, ample rhythms, and open structures. He seeks to breathe life into space.
He explores fluid and luminous forms, seeking to capture the intensity of the moment through plays of light and shadow. He plays with contrasts, transparency, and lighting effects to give an almost magical dimension to his compositions.
Often centered on nature, landscapes and faces, it is marked by an innovative use of light that brings out the forms from the background of the canvas.
His work evokes today's digital palettes: vibrant colors, stark contrasts, bold flat tints.
Baron-Renouard worked slowly, always listening for the "right" gesture. Everything was done by hand, by instinct, by the material.
Because it is a generous, vibrant painting. It embodies a profound yet accessible abstraction.
A figure of post-war French abstraction, a friend of Schneider, Poliakoff, Mathieu, he leaves behind a luminous and musical body of work that was not limited to painting but was also devoted to the applied arts: stained glass, mosaics, tapestries.
Over the decades, he has built an international reputation thanks to his exhibitions in the world's greatest museums and galleries.
