Description
In this provocative yet elegant work, I explore the delicate tension between a man and a woman, transforming a chess game into a metaphor for attraction, power, and emotional strategy.
Through an expressive male portrait and female portrait, I wanted to capture the moment where desire becomes the next move.
The sensual woman, with her bare breast and exposed nipple, introduces an element of vulnerability that contrasts with confidence, while her red lips and flowing red dress become symbols of passion, temptation, and control. Executed as a black and white painting with striking red accents, the composition balances minimalism with emotional intensity.
The fragmented chess pieces below echo the invisible moves made in every intimate relationship, where no victory comes without sacrifice. Loose brushstrokes, dripping paint, and unfinished lines create a sense of movement and uncertainty, inviting the viewer to decide who truly holds the power.
Presentation
Kristina Mallen, a painter with a background in oil and acrylic mediums.
Her recognisable style infuses the sophistication of Art Deco, the pop of Pop Art with a dominant focus on the female figure, manifesting elegance and eroticism. Her work exudes the extravagance, classical chic, and charm of women, striking a balance between provocation and the sublime.
