Original painting
A solitary house stands under a heavy, overcast sky. The composition emphasizes a profound sense of stillness. Muted tones dominate the palette. Grey clouds press down upon a weathered structure. The architecture blends rustic wood with crumbling white plaster. A central wooden porch adds a touch of warmth to the desolate scene. Its reddish hue contrasts with the surrounding neutrality. A simple fence carves a boundary between the wild grass and the dwelling. The brushwork is precise yet soft. It captures the texture of aging materials and damp air. This artwork evokes a nostalgic longing for rural solitude. The perspective remains flat and direct. It invites the viewer to contemplate the passage of time. Silence permeates the atmosphere. Every detail suggests a slow, rhythmic pace of life. The horizon line is low. This allows the oppressive sky to occupy most of the frame. The painting balances a feeling of isolation with a quiet, enduring strength. Light filters through the clouds in a diffused manner. It illuminates the peeling paint of the exterior walls.
Presentation
Ilona Shymchyts is an artist originally from the village of Mushkativka in the Borshchiv region. She received her education at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. Her works have been exhibited in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Borshchiv, and the L. Levytskyi Museum in Burdiakivtsi, as well as abroad - in Toronto (Canada), Poznań, and Toruń (Poland). The artist’s works are held in private collections in Ukraine and beyond, including the United States, Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the Czech Republic. In her paintings, Shymchyts often combines realistic attention to detail with a soft decorative quality and a restrained color palette. Her works reveal a tendency to create quiet, meditative landscapes in which rural architecture conveys a sense of calm and a connection to her native land.
