Description
The energy of street art seizes the majestic figure of a lion here. The gaze is fixed. The posture is noble. The artist uses their Pop Graffiti technique to structure the face. Fragments of collages and lettering interweave into the mane.
The contrast is striking. The black and white of the portrait stands out against a saturated background. Splashes of primary colors explode all around the subject. Movement is omnipresent. Paint projections and graphic lines energize the composition.
This creation mixes the codes of popular culture and the urban aesthetic. The work on textures brings a tactile depth to the canvas. The mix of media creates a constant visual relief.
Realized in 2025, this technique painting uses mixed media. The background alternates between sharp blocks and zones of organized chaos. The final rendering emphasizes the raw power of the animal through a contemporary prism.
Presentation
An emblematic figure of the French Street Art scene, Jo Di Bona owes his meteoric success to a unique technique he invented in the 1990s: "Pop Graffiti," where he combines collages and various graffiti influences with Pop Culture, a major inspiration for him. A modern-day Fauvist, Jo blends colors and movement to create faces imbued with poetry and emotion. Awarded the prestigious 1st Prize in graffiti by the EDF Foundation in 2014, he has since exhibited internationally, performed live, and created large-scale murals. Jo Di Bona was also one of the first Street Artists worldwide to enter the United Nations headquarters in New York in January 2017. He is among the 25 international artists featured in the Urban Contemporary Art Guide for 2019/2020/2022/2023/2024, has been on the cover of the New York Times, and is frequently celebrated by media outlets (radio, press, TV…).
He has appeared in various Art publications, released his first monograph in May 2024 with Gallimard // Alternatives, and was officially appointed ambassador for volunteers at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
