Description
The wild animal imposes itself here with a magnetic presence. The primate's gaze fixes the spectator with a solemn intensity. The black and white line draws the volumes with precision. The face fragments under the effect of an urban collage. Fragments of newspapers and typographical letters come to break the silhouette.
The background explodes in primary colors. Blue, yellow, and red intertwine in a jerky graphic rhythm. Geometric shapes and paper splinters float around the central figure. This contrast between the sobriety of the portrait and the energy of the setting creates a striking visual tension.
The technique skillfully mixes drawing and collage art. The superimpositions of materials bring a tactile relief to the composition. The text becomes a plastic element in its own right. The whole evokes the collision between raw nature and the effervescence of the city. The work ends with a discreet signature in the lower right corner.
Presentation
An emblematic figure of the French Street Art scene, Jo Di Bona owes his meteoric success to a unique technique he invented in the 1990s: "Pop Graffiti," where he combines collages and various graffiti influences with Pop Culture, a major inspiration for him. A modern-day Fauvist, Jo blends colors and movement to create faces imbued with poetry and emotion. Awarded the prestigious 1st Prize in graffiti by the EDF Foundation in 2014, he has since exhibited internationally, performed live, and created large-scale murals. Jo Di Bona was also one of the first Street Artists worldwide to enter the United Nations headquarters in New York in January 2017. He is among the 25 international artists featured in the Urban Contemporary Art Guide for 2019/2020/2022/2023/2024, has been on the cover of the New York Times, and is frequently celebrated by media outlets (radio, press, TV…).
He has appeared in various Art publications, released his first monograph in May 2024 with Gallimard // Alternatives, and was officially appointed ambassador for volunteers at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
