Description
This triptych presents a singular banquet scene. Male figures saturate the space around a white tablecloth. The line is frank. The silhouettes distort with irony. Each character reveals a different attitude. Some die in silence. Others come alive in a noisy exchange. The absence of a real model leaves place to instinctive creation.
The composition relies on a play of chromatic contrasts. The bright white of the linen contrasts with the earthy tones of the linen canvas. A few touches of red punctuate the scene. One can discern wine glasses and clothing details.
This painting captures a moment of daily life. The gaze circulates from one panel to another. The visual narrative unfolds across three supports.
Presentation
Béatrice Terra was born in Saint-Etienne. She lives and works in Montbrison, Loire. She studied advertising and worked for several years in agencies, but never abandoned her passion, and took painting courses in Saint-Etienne, in Serge Brossy's studio.
In 2002, she moved to the South of France and started teaching visual arts courses. She started exhibiting her work and in 2007 moved back to the Saint-Etienne region where she opened her own studio.
Béatrice Terra paints mostly men and their portraits. She doesn't want to be distracted by colors, so her palette is simple and she leaves out details that might blurr the lisibility of her paintings or drawings.
Men (in the masculine sense of the word) move her through their sensitivity. She paints men that come of of nowhere, she never has models. Béatrice Terra gets to know them little by little, as she paints them. She is only at the beginning of this subjects that fascinates her.
