Description
This work explores the beauty of urban surfaces and the passage of time. The gaze moves through an assembly of superimposed layers. Fragments of torn paper, from flyers and posters collected in the street, reveal strata of colors and textures. Blue dominates the composition. It alternates between deep shades and lighter tones, evoking posters erased by the weather.
The material is expressed through marked contrasts. Whitish and neutral areas rhythm the space. They create a play of balance with accidental geometric shapes. Each tear becomes an involuntary brushstroke. The composition plays on repetition and fragmentation. The different fragments of flyers retain traces of their past life in the urban space.
The approach favors a balance between composition and the aesthetics of wear. The visual rendering captures the essence of a city wall through materials that come directly from it. The image is built on a superposition of planes, where the flyers collected in the street become the material of the composition itself. The detail of the paper fibers, the tears, and the traces of wear bring a tactile dimension. The whole forms an abstract landscape where the traces of time, the qualities of the materials, and the artist's choices participate in the final composition.

Christian Gastaldi is a French artist who has lived abroad. He learns art on his own. A sports artist, he manipulates standing materials with energy that he transposes to his art. His stylistic works punctuated by the frozen time of the canvas form alliances of materials and colors, collage and assemblage. Christian Gastaldi establishes an equivocal but also destructive communication in the fragments of letters and posters. Its graphic harmony has earned it international success.
