Lunch under cumulus — Pauline Bailly
An overt nod to the famous Édouard Manet, moving the codes with poetry and freedom.
Here, no undergrowth nor pastoral scene: the landscape has taken refuge in the hair. An emblematic figure of the series Women Cloud by Pauline Bailly, this nude woman reveals herself while hiding behind a spectacular mass of cumulus. The nude remains, but the feminine gaze is no longer that of a model offered to the spectator: calm and assured, it faces us.
On the vibrant red of the setting, the body with soft lines and the almost unreal cloud compose a suspended scene, between sensuality, daydreaming, and self-affirmation.
With humor, this revisits a monument of art history to lead us into the singular universe of Pauline Bailly, where women literally have their heads in the clouds — without ever losing their footing.
