Description
Was bleibt, wenn man schaut? Meaning "What Remains When One Looks?. It opens up a dense, colour-saturated pictorial space in which the painter creates a kind of inner, interstellar landscape. Two circular forms stand in the upper section like energetic poles: one in a warm yellow, the other dark, interlaced with shimmering green patterns. Spanning between them is an angular, red-orange connection that acts like an impulse — a moment of exchange that structurally holds the picture together. Beneath this constellation, gestural lines spread out, reminiscent of roots, streams or organic ramifications. The areas of colour are dense and physical, rendered in the artist's characteristic, heavy brushwork. The background pulsates with bold tones that overlap, creating an atmosphere that oscillates between cosmic vastness and emotional intensity. In the lower section, abstract symbols and fragments appear, which seem like traces of a thought — not unambiguous, but deliberately left open-ended. The composition embodies the processing of the day: light and dark, connection and dissolution, an interplay of inner movement and moments of stillness.
Presentation
The young painter Maximilian Nusch had his exhibition debut in 2026 with the Lukas‑Larsen Gallery. His works move between abstraction and interstellar landscapes, developed in a consciously naive, direct painting style. They are characterised by a dense, physical touch and intense use of colour, often presented in a neon-like, broad way. Black also plays a central role. In his paintings, the artist processes the day's experiences — both positive and negative — and translates them into powerful, emotional strokes of colour.
