Description
The gaze falls on a musical icon immortalized with audacity. This portrait revisits the codes of Pop Art through an unusual medium. The artist uses audio cassettes to compose their canvas. These nostalgic objects structure the image and create a singular relief.
The stencil technique and spray paint bring graphic precision. The contrast between the white of the face and the deep blue of the hair draws attention. Touches of bright red come to energize the composition.
The work is inscribed in a reflection on music and its materiality. The medium becomes the message. Each cassette becomes an analog pixel. The whole transforms an everyday object into a precious plastic element.
The rigorous execution emphasizes a mastery of street art applied to a gallery format. This piece merges popular imagery and industrial salvage. The final rendering plays with the transparencies and opacities of the paint. The composition ends with technical details visible on the plastic casings.
Presentation
Mister Melody is a visual artist based in La Rochelle on the west coast of France.
Born in 1975 in the north of France, he studied art in Belgium and became a tattoo artist in 2000.
Alongside his work, he took out the spray cans and tried his hand at stenciling, but to stand out from the crowd, he had to find an original medium. It was while rummaging through his attic that he found some old audio cassettes. The original medium was all he needed!!!
The project began in 2021, currently has around thirty works and still has plenty of ideas, including spray cans encrusted with audio cassettes and customized with acrylic paint.
The "Pictorial Melody" is launched!!!
