Description
Urban art takes an unusual support here to pay tribute to an iconic rock figure. The artist repurposes audio cassettes to compose a fragmented portrait. The stencil technique combines with aerosol paint to create a sharp contrast between glacier blue and deep black.
The gaze, partially masked by the plastic mechanisms, brings a tactile dimension to the composition. The stylized lettering frames the face, recalling the graphic codes of Pop Art. The transparent plastic of the magnetic tapes fragments the image, creating a play of transparency and superposition.
This approach transforms an obsolete object into a contemporary tool of creation. The work on lines and shadows emphasizes the precision of the gesture. The whole is protected under glass in a sober black frame. The composition plays on the repetition of the geometric shapes of the cassettes to structure the visual space.
Presentation
Mister Melody is a visual artist based in La Rochelle on the west coast of France.
Born in 1975 in the north of France, he studied art in Belgium and became a tattoo artist in 2000.
Alongside his work, he took out the spray cans and tried his hand at stenciling, but to stand out from the crowd, he had to find an original medium. It was while rummaging through his attic that he found some old audio cassettes. The original medium was all he needed!!!
The project began in 2021, currently has around thirty works and still has plenty of ideas, including spray cans encrusted with audio cassettes and customized with acrylic paint.
