Description
This sculpture detours everyday objects to celebrate music culture. The artist uses stacked audio cassettes as pictorial support. The work is in the lineage of Pop Art.
The composition plays on a marked chromatic contrast. A deep blue opposes shades of ochre and brown. The line is sharp. The rendering evokes the aesthetic of stenciling and street art.
The whole rests on a black, matte octagonal base. This base stabilizes the vertical structure. The superposition of the casings creates a geometric relief.
The spray paint covers the plastic surface. The stylized face fragments through the joints of the cassettes. The industrial aspect of the support dialogues with the precision of the drawing.
The object thus fuses the nostalgia of the analog support and the modernity of urban techniques. The piece presents itself as a totem dedicated to sonic icons.
Presentation
Mister Melody is a visual artist based in La Rochelle on the west coast of France.
Born in 1975 in the north of France, he studied art in Belgium and became a tattoo artist in 2000.
Alongside his work, he took out the spray cans and tried his hand at stenciling, but to stand out from the crowd, he had to find an original medium. It was while rummaging through his attic that he found some old audio cassettes. The original medium was all he needed!!!
The project began in 2021, currently has around thirty works and still has plenty of ideas, including spray cans encrusted with audio cassettes and customized with acrylic paint.
