Description
A raw and balanced composition. The gaze is immediately caught by a male face, hands joined in a posture of prayer or terror. A blue azure circle crowns the head, surrounded by red rays that evoke a profane halo.
The palette is limited to ochre and earthy tones, contrasting with the cold brilliance of the center. The line is nervous, almost graphic, reminiscent of the aesthetic of popular prints or urban posters.
This painting from 2019 questions our relationship to images and symbols of contemporary society. The artist uses a theatrical staging here to criticize the superficiality of entertainment and the influence of the media.
The balance between the violence of the line and the softness of the colors creates a palpable tension. The figure seems trapped in an irregular red frame, reinforcing the idea of an oppressive space. The final rendering oscillates between religious iconography and social satire, all executed with rigorous technical precision.
Presentation
The painter Christophe Compiano, born in 1979, trained at the Beaux Arts in Paris. He is totally part of the contemporary movement and through each of his works engages in a critique of materialist society. In his brutal but balanced compositions, he challenges the entertainment industry. We find there the symbols of television, cinema, advertising with which we grew up and which lobotomizes the population. Harmony and fantasy is brought about by bright colors that keep the universe manipulated, false.
