Description
This mixed composition from 2007 explores the mechanisms of materialistic society. The gaze first meets a deep black background. It highlights the contrast with blocks of bright colors. A character with a frozen smile evokes the codes of advertising and entertainment. The central text stands out with its pink curves and white outline. Vertical drips cross the canvas. They bring a raw aspect to the whole.
The top of the canvas presents an acid green rectangle. Black arrows converge towards a center marked by a bloody red. At the bottom, fragments of brands and popular imagery interweave. Blue dominates this lower area via superimposed textures. The artist uses familiar symbols here to question our relationship with consumption. The mix of techniques creates a visual relief. Each element seems to float in an undefined space. The tension arises from the balance between the rigor of geometric shapes and the chaos of paint projections. The whole closes on a play of sharp chromatic contrasts.
Presentation
The painter Christophe Compiano, born in 1979, trained at the Beaux Arts in Paris. He is totally part of the contemporary movement and through each of his works engages in a critique of materialist society. In his brutal but balanced compositions, he challenges the entertainment industry. We find there the symbols of television, cinema, advertising with which we grew up and which lobotomizes the population. Harmony and fantasy is brought about by bright colors that keep the universe manipulated, false.
