Description
This contemporary portrait captures a moment of urban life with instinctive precision. The composition focuses on a character whose face fades behind a daily gesture. The gaze is drawn to the contrast of colors. A bright blue adorns the clothing, while a deep red marks the headwear.
The mixed technique brings a tactile richness to the surface. Superimpositions of layers create a complex visual depth. Floral patterns and geometric shapes are discernible intertwining in the background. The line, nervous and assured, emphasizes the contours of a silhouette in deep thought.
The aesthetic borrows from the codes of street art to explore the intimacy of banal moments. The play between opaque areas and transparencies suggests a vaporous atmosphere. Each detail reinforces the idea of a suspended communication. The whole rests on a subtle balance between abstraction and figuration. The execution relies on the use of various paints and materials applied to the support.
Presentation
Painter and lecturer in Art History, Virginie Delmas deepened her skills in engraving techniques at the Heatherley School of Fine Arts (London) and in Japanese prints at the Royal Academy of London. Her work is inspired by the observation of great painters, but also by the world around her and the human beings who inhabit it. Sensitive to the transparency of the air and the purity of light, Virginie Delmas adopts a hybrid approach to painting, mixing various techniques. Her works are born from a gesture, an intention, or an unexpected detail. Each fragment of a posture, captured in the moment, reveals the poetry of the ordinary. The vibration of a color, the shimmer of a light, the play of reflections of a fabric, or the iridescence of a gleam guide the artist in her painting.
Virginie Delmas paints ordinary scenes, fragments seized in the moment where details swarm.
