Description
Oil on canvas
A serene meditation on quietude. This oil painting presents a meticulously arranged still life. Light falls softly across an open book. Its white pages dominate the center. A golden chalice stands guard beside the text. Its polished surface catches a subtle glow. In the foreground, a small plate holds pieces of bread. The textures are palpable. The crust appears crisp. The inner crumb looks soft and porous.
The composition evokes a sense of ritual and introspection. Deep earthy tones anchor the scene. Browns and ochres create a warm, enveloping atmosphere. The artist blends classical observation with a contemporary sensibility. Every brushstroke emphasizes the weight of the objects. Time seems to slow down. There is a profound silence in the arrangement. It suggests a moment of spiritual or intellectual awakening. The spatial relationship between the sacred vessel and the humble bread hints at deeper symbolic meanings. Muted colors enhance the solemnity of the image. The light reveals the grain of the surface and the fold of the paper. A precise balance governs the scene. The gaze is drawn from the brightness of the book to the tactile quality of the bread.
Presentation
Ilia Menabde is a Georgian painter born in 2003 who lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia. His practice explores the relationship between memory, time, place, and contemporary experience. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 2026 and currently works from a temporary studio in Tbilisi. Working primarily with oil on canvas, Menabde approaches painting as an evolving process of experimentation. His practice draws upon diverse historical periods, visual references, and the environments that surround him, which he reinterprets through a personal and contemporary language. Rather than adhering to a single stylistic approach, he continuously explores new techniques, compositions, textures, and ways of constructing the painted image. Menabde’s work reflects the perspective of a young artist navigating the tension between inherited artistic traditions and the rapidly changing visual culture of the present. His paintings combine observation, imagination, and experimentation, creating spaces in which different temporal and emotional references can coexist. He has participated in several group exhibitions in Tbilisi, and his works are held in private collections.
