Description
This painting captures the intensity of a metropolis under a pale sky. The composition guides the eye towards a hazy horizon. On either side, skyscrapers rise in dark, vertical masses. The knife work creates dense textures. The buildings seem to blend into an electric atmosphere.
In the center, a wet avenue reflects the cold light of the day. A few car silhouettes punctuate the space. The touches of red and yellow bring a sharp contrast with the gray and black tones.
The rendering evokes the hustle and bustle of urban life and the solitude of large cities. The play of reflections on the asphalt gives an impression of suspended movement. The diffused light softens the contours of the architectural structures. The contrast between the rigor of the lines and the fluidity of the painting structures the whole. The image ends with a dark foreground where the artist's signature is inscribed.
