Description
Figurative art unfolds here with remarkable freedom. The knife, used with precision, sculpts the material to give life to a tilted face. The gaze is lost in a play of marked contrasts. Deep reds oppose the cool tones of the background. Each stroke brings structural dynamism to the composition.
Light grazes the reliefs of the skin and fabric. Oil paint allows for generous impasto. The movement suggests a moment of calm, almost suspended. The color palette alternates between saturated areas and flashes of pure white.
The pictorial approach favors raw expression. Forms intertwine to create visual depth. The composition focuses on the intimacy of a portrait. This creation dated 2025 testifies to a constant search for light. The final rendering emphasizes the tension between abstraction and recognition of human features.
Presentation
“Elisabeth Besnier has created a very personal style: What mastery and sensitivity in her large canvases! With a bold, broad palette knife, the artist evokes her palette of colors and her interplay of light and shadow with a structural dynamism and a delightful charm within remarkable compositions, close-up portraits, street scenes with vibrant contrasts, not to mention her dazzling floral compositions, which she also explores with the same captivating authenticity."
André Ruellan, Art Critic, Art-culture-France
Elisabeth Besnier was born in 1964 in Romans-sur-Isère. She joined a painting workshop in Normandy and left after a few years. She continued her personal journey within her own studio, free to conduct her own research, using the tools she had experimented with.
