Description
The painting depicts nude women and a half-naked man standing in the background. The group of people depicted in the painting is preparing for a performance. They are not professional actors. They are amateurs who gather in their free time to act out a scene taken from fictional plays of bygone eras. They have undressed so they can later put on their theatrical costumes. The artist, using his imagination, seems to have peeked into the dressing room and captured this scene. In this painting—or rather, this sketch—the artist has depicted the scene in an unusual way, drawing on his imagination.
