Description
Plastic artist, born in 1964 in Limoges, Marie Ange is a portraitist and feather artist
Through her portraits she expresses her desire for aestheticism and femininity as well as her penchant for melancholy and nostalgia. Her faces are strong and express a rare emotion.
With different mediums (here encaustic), she questions our ability to remember an era (that of her childhood), using vintage photos that she appropriates by blurring them, putting them in fog, making them tell another story
Encaustic once painted is melted with an iron to give the work an unreal, blurred, and distorted appearance.
A summer scene suspended in time. Five young women pose with complicity on the hood of an old car. The composition plays on a striking contrast between a monochrome background and targeted touches of color. Yellow, blue, and red attract the eye to the clothes, thus isolating the figures from their environment.
The work relies on a complex technical layering. The use of wax and mixed techniques brings a tactile depth to the surface. The rendering oscillates between photographic precision and pictorial abstraction. The line fragments, suggesting the gradual fading of memories.
The figurative approach explores here nostalgia and the passage of years. The light seems to filter through a veil, creating a vaporous atmosphere. This group portrait captures the carefree nature of a precise moment. The chromatic treatment emphasizes the freshness of the hues against the neutrality of gray. The composition ends on the metallic lines of the vehicle and the reflection of the dark ground.
Presentation
Marie-Ange Daudé is a French artist born in 1967 who lives and works in Gironde in France.
She studied management and urban planning, she lived among architectes and artists and got interested in the creative process. Her ecological preoccupations can be seen in her work, especially in her first works which she created from waste such as glass, cans and boxes.
She made a collection of 68 hearts, between 2012 and 2013, in which she uses a different technique in each one of them, a sort of love and artistic walk. She then decided to offer a new interpretation of old photographs to which she adds surprising material and elements such as staples and feathers. These broken portraits, glued and reconstructed are a sort of personal interpretation of the passing time.
More recently, she has been creating portraits out of feathers: portraits of women, both strong and delicate and nostalgic. The feathers are suspended on nylon wire, which gives the impression that the portraits are floating over the support.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions.
