Description
In "The Sound of Silence", Leonardo Donoso embarks on an aesthetic exploration centered on stillness, chromatic vibration, and the resonance of void. Diverging from the stark dynamism of his more sharp-edged gestural compositions, this work unfolds a sweeping, immersive mass of hazy tones, pale lavenders, lilacs, and muted whites that dominates the heart of the canvas like a dense mist, suggesting the visual materialization of a prolonged pause or a suspended echo.
The construction of the canvas relies on successive layers and subtle glazes that imbue the surface with tactile depth and atmospheric translucency. This central body—seemingly ethereal and vaporous—contrasts directly with zones of sharp chromatic impact along the perimeters: in the upper right quadrant, vibrant fields of turquoise and emerald emerge, punctuated by energetic reddish marks, while the lower threshold is firmly anchored by an abyss of deep blacks and midnight blues, from which fine vertical drips descend to reveal the raw physical memory of the painterly process.
True to its title, offers a meditative arena where emotional containment transforms into potent visual gravity. Donoso succeeds in turning silence not into an absence, but into a palpable, resonant presence, articulating an eloquent dialogue between the weightlessness of air, the density of pigment, and the latent pulse of contemporary abstraction.
Presentation
Leonardo Donoso (also known as ) is a contemporary Spanish abstract artist born 1982 in Seville, Andalusia, Spain.
Creative Method and Artistic Style Leonardo Donoso’s work focuses exclusively on abstraction. His visual language explores the emotional resonance of color, the expressive power of gesture, and the architectural balance of the canvas:
Energy and Psychology of Color: Color serves as the artist's primary vehicle for emotional connection. His works explore both bold, contrasting palettes and subtle monochromatic gradations.
Layering and Texture: Donoso builds his canvases through successive layers of paint (), generating depth, movement, and concealed visual planes. Underlying brushstrokes and tactile surfaces often emerge subtly through upper layers.
Dialogue with Architecture and Design: His compositions reflect an affinity for architectural structure and graphic design, balancing dynamic, spontaneous brushwork with careful spatial harmony.
Conceptual Depth and Musicality: Titles frequently evoke poetic or musical themes (such as , , and ), offering associative entry points while leaving interpretation open to the viewer.
Gallery Collaborations and Curatorial Projects Donoso’s work has garnered interest from private collectors, art galleries, and architectural curation initiatives:
Gallery Representation: Exhibited across contemporary galleries and art platforms in Spain, including spaces in Andalusia and the Balearic Islands (such as in Palma).
Corporate and Hospitality Collections: Selected by art consultancy and curatorial firms such as (Seville / Marbella) for high-end hospitality and interior projects, including luxury hotels (such as in Marbella).
International Art Fairs: Featured in European contemporary art fairs and international exhibition catalogues.
