Description
Tactile exploration meets botanical precision. This triptych captures the intricate architecture of the natural world. The Chilean artist employs a poetic approach to territory and memory. Meticulous handwork transforms simple materials into complex ecosystems.
Each panel evolves through a dialogue of textures. Silk and linen serve as the foundation for layered organic forms. These shapes mimic the fragmented beauty of leaves and frost. Subtle shifts in palette move from deep midnight tones to ethereal whites and soft creams.
The artwork breathes between two and three dimensions. Stitching and perforation create rhythmic depth. Every fiber evokes the passage of time and the fragility of the landscape. The composition balances dense clusters with airy voids. It invites a quiet contemplation of nature's traces.
The interplay of light and shadow emphasizes the relief of the textile surfaces. The three pieces function as a cohesive study of growth and decay. Each element is placed with expert precision to evoke an atmospheric forest floor. The narrative concludes with the delicate tension between the structured weave and the wild, organic overlap of the botanical forms.
Presentation
Vero González Ugarte (Santiago, Chile, 1973) is a Chilean contemporary visual artist living and working between Santiago and Barcelona. Her practice explores nature, landscape, memory, and territory through a material and poetic approach, moving between drawing, printmaking, mixed media, textile art, and installation.
Working primarily with paper, silk, and linen, González Ugarte combines drawing, traditional printmaking techniques, and textile processes with contemporary practices, including painting, stitching, perforation, and the transformative use of fire. Through repetition, rhythm, and meticulous handwork, organic forms such as leaves, botanical structures, and fragments of landscape are transformed into layered compositions that move between two and three dimensions. Her work reflects on the traces left by nature, the passage of time, and the relationship between material, memory, and place.
González Ugarte has held more than fifteen solo exhibitions, including Ceniza y Huella (Galería Artespacio, Santiago, 2025), Un infinito de verdes (Galería Sextante, Bogotá, 2023), and Cien vistas del Monte (Galería Artespacio, Santiago, 2021). Her work has been presented internationally at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and in the context of the Cuenca Biennial in Ecuador. Her works are held in public and private collections across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, with commissions including Celebrity Xcel, Boston Children's Hospital, and Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou.
