Description
A whimsical fusion of surrealism and coastal elegance. A striking woman anchors the composition. Her gaze is calm and direct. She wears a bold striped garment that mirrors the rhythmic patterns of the sea.
The scene defies gravity. An ornate teapot rests upon her head like a crown. It sits poised on a delicate saucer. Tiny seashells nestle beside it. Wisps of steam curl upward into a bright blue sky.
In her hand, a matching cup holds a dark brew. The steam blends with the clouds. In the distance, a majestic sailing ship glides across the horizon. The crashing white surf adds a sense of movement to the stillness of the portrait.
The color palette balances deep navy tones with vivid orange hair. Every line is precise. Every detail is intentional. This artwork explores the intersection of domesticity and adventure. It transforms a simple tea break into a poetic dreamscape. The interplay of black and white stripes creates a strong graphic contrast against the soft natural light of the shoreline.
Presentation
A contemporary Bulgarian artist of German heritage (b. 1970), Dmitry King holds a Bachelor's degree in Painting and Design with a specialization in Painting and Graphic Arts. His practice spans over two decades and has earned him international recognition across Europe and North America. His work investigates the threshold between the inner world of the individual and the symbolic imagery that emerges at the intersection of imagination and lived emotional experience. Working primarily in magical realist painting with elements of surrealism, he constructs visual dialogues between tangible reality and metaphorical, image-driven spaces – inviting the viewer into a deeply introspective yet universally resonant encounter. Since 2013, Dmitry King has been an active member of the Union of Professional Artists of Bulgaria (Varna), facilitating ongoing collaboration with galleries throughout the country. Since 2016, he has had a permanent collaboration artist agreement at HG Contemporary Gallery in the Chelsea art district, New York – one of the city's most prestigious contemporary art spaces – where he exhibits.
