Description
A serene female figure emerges from a deep nocturnal blue. Her face is tilted upward in a gesture of quiet transcendence. Soft light sculpts her features with pearlescent precision. A luminous celestial sphere frames her head like a divine halo. This circular glow creates a portal between the physical and the spiritual realms.
Butterflies dance around her in a rhythmic whirlwind. They appear in shades of pale gold and ethereal white. Some wings blend seamlessly into her flowing hair, blurring the line between human and nature. The composition evokes a sense of lightness and release. Every creature seems to pulse with a gentle inner energy. The contrast between the dark backdrop and the vivid highlights emphasizes a moment of profound inner peace.
Delicate brushwork captures the translucency of the wings. The color palette balances cool sapphire tones with warm amber accents. This artwork explores themes of metamorphosis and mental clarity. It invites the viewer into a meditative state through its fluid lines and harmonious balance. The gaze remains closed, suggesting that the true journey is happening within. A single butterfly rests near the bottom, anchoring the floating scene with a touch of grounded grace.
Presentation
A contemporary Bulgarian artist of German heritage (b. 1970), Dmitry King holds a Bachelor's degree in Painting and Design with a specialization in Painting and Graphic Arts. His practice spans over two decades and has earned him international recognition across Europe and North America. His work investigates the threshold between the inner world of the individual and the symbolic imagery that emerges at the intersection of imagination and lived emotional experience. Working primarily in magical realist painting with elements of surrealism, he constructs visual dialogues between tangible reality and metaphorical, image-driven spaces – inviting the viewer into a deeply introspective yet universally resonant encounter. Since 2013, Dmitry King has been an active member of the Union of Professional Artists of Bulgaria (Varna), facilitating ongoing collaboration with galleries throughout the country. Since 2016, he has had a permanent collaboration artist agreement at HG Contemporary Gallery in the Chelsea art district, New York – one of the city's most prestigious contemporary art spaces – where he exhibits.
