Description
Abstraction is expressed here through a play of subtle contrasts. A dark diagonal crosses the composition. It guides the eye from one corner to the other of the support. This dense line evokes a fissure or an organic movement. The stroke seems sculpted in the material.
Around this axis, the colors soften. Shades of blue and beige intermingle. The background diffuses into vaporous gradients. This lightness contrasts with the rigor of the central line. The rendering suggests an undefined space, almost atmospheric.
The technique mixes oil and acrylic. This combination allows for the union of the depth of the pigments with the precision of the line. The work on textures brings a tactile dimension to the whole. Each shade is worked to create a sense of depth.
This painting dates from 2026. It explores the balance between force and fragility. The composition rests on a controlled visual tension, where the void and the full respond to each other. The final rendering favors a dull and soothing chromatic harmony.
Presentation
Amélie Aubin is a painter based in Montreal whose practice explores abstraction through color, movement, and material.
After an initial period of creation in 2015, she moves away from painting for several years before returning to it during a time of profound personal transformation. Creation then becomes a space for her, a way to move forward, to find herself, and to explore a more intimate relationship with herself.
Rather than starting from a fully defined composition, she builds her works progressively, attentive to the balances that appear as she moves.
Her approach is based on a simple conviction: to first paint what she herself wishes to see and feel. When she tries to anticipate the gaze or expectations of others, the gesture loses its accuracy. She thus favors a free and instinctive creation, in which each work is born from the search for a balance between spontaneity, softness, and movement.
