Description
A landscape composition where nature imposes itself forcefully. Slender cypresses stretch towards a turbulent sky. Their dark silhouettes create a marked contrast with the clarity of the clouds. The touch is thick. The material is deposited in successive layers. This knife work emphasizes the texture of the ground and the dense foliage of the trees.
The eye glides to the background. Some roofs are subtly outlined behind the vegetation. The chromatic balance rests on earthy tones and shades of grey-blue. The artist captures the heavy atmosphere of an autumn afternoon. The light seems to filter through a cloudy layer, illuminating only a few areas of the meadow.
This painting testifies to a figurative approach attentive to climatic variations. The tight framing reinforces the sensation of immersion in this rural setting. The whole exudes a melancholic serenity. The painting ends with a zone of deep shadow in the foreground.
Presentation
A contemporary painter born in 1962 in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, André Boubounelle paints landscapes in the classical manner, at a time when practices often put aside the pictorial and the figurative. Whether luminous or misty, his landscapes are never animated and exude a delicate poetry, a harmonious melancholy. This gives a rare emotional intensity to his paintings: as if in immersion, we walk through familiar landscapes of Burgundy, Ile de France, the sunny countryside under the snow, the Vexin, northern Brittany through Tuscany.
Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1983. Prize from the Casa de Velázquez, Institut de France, resident from 1991 to 1993. Prize of the Wildenstein Foundation in 1993,
The departmental domain of the Vallée-aux-Loup, La Maison de Chateaubriand in Chatenay-Malabry devoted an important exhibition to him in 2019, under the aegis of Marc Fumaroli (1932-2020), of the Académie Française.
