Description
A maritime composition where the material asserts itself. The artist uses acrylic with precision to suggest the silhouette of boats. The knife leaves thick and straightforward traces. The gesture is quick. The rhythm is marked by thin vertical lines that evoke masts.
The neutral gray background makes primary colors stand out. Yellow, blue, and red intertwine in a game of sharp contrasts. These colored touches structure the scene and organize the space. The water becomes a mirror. The reflections stretch at the bottom of the canvas, creating a visual balance between the sky and the sea.
The style oscillates between abstraction and figuration. The shape of the vessel remains recognizable despite the deconstruction of the lines. The whole exudes a sense of calm and clarity. This piece made in 2026 plays on the density of the paint to give relief to the surface. The final rendering emphasizes the meeting between the fluidity of the marine environment and the solidity of the acrylic material.
Presentation
Fred Boutet is originally from Bordeaux. Though he has had a passion for painting since his childhood, he began his professional life as a wine producer. He decided to become a painter only in 2000 and now divides his time between these two professions.
A self-taught painter, he initially turned towards abstract painting, which allowed him to satisfy a need for freedom through artistic creation. However, he gradually headed towards a more figurative style, and addressed the theme of marine, one of his favorite topics These boat paintings are almost certainly a tribute to his hometown and in memory of his father who was a sailor.
The artist also works on urban landscape, the ones in big cities where buildings, concrete and light interwine.
Fred Boutet does acrylic painting and uses a paint brush and palette knife. According to him, the use of colors helps him structure and organize his creations: these are combined together, creating a complicit atmosphere and portraying natural elements where power and calm oppose one another.
