Description
This artwork is a captivating piece that invokes the dynamic interplay of colors and emotions, blending elements of abstraction and surrealism. The canvas is dominated by a central horizon line that delineates two distinct realms of color and texture. Above the horizon, vibrant streaks of reds, purples, and blues burst outward, creating a sense of explosive energy and movement. These colors seem to radiate from a central vanishing point, drawing the viewer's eye into the depth of the composition. Below the horizon, the hues shift to cooler tones of blues and purples, creating a calm yet intense contrast with the upper section. This section appears smoother, almost as if the colors are pooling and merging into one another, suggestive of water or a reflective surface. The intersection of the two sections is poignant, highlighting the meeting point of chaos and serenity. The unique aspect of this artwork lies in its ability to convey both motion and stillness simultaneously. The bold, radiating lines above contrast sharply with the more subdued, flowing colors below, offering a visual narrative that engages the viewer in an exploration of dualities. The technique employed by the artist showcases a masterful control of color and form, using stark contrasts and directional brushstrokes to evoke a visceral response. This piece is a testament to the power of abstraction in conveying complex emotional states and the dynamic nature of perception.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
