Description
A new series inspired by architecture, décor and stylish personalities of the world of interior design.
This artwork vividly captures a mother and child in a domestic setting. The figures are adorned in matching, intricately patterned clothing, characterized by vibrant polka dots against a neutral background. Their expressions are stoic, creating a sense of calm. The surrounding decor showcases a skilful blend of patterns; a floral wallpaper contrasts with a sleek mirror frame. The table is meticulously arranged with a decorative vase filled with colorful flowers, a red lamp, and various small objects, adding depth and interest. The vibrant palette and detailed patterns exemplify an attention to detail and a celebration of everyday life. The reflection of the figures in the mirror introduces a layer of complexity and introspection. The juxtaposition of lively colors and solemn expressions injects a compelling dynamic into the scene. The artist successfully balances nostalgia and modernity, creating a piece that is both familiar and refreshingly unique.
Presentation
The worlds of fashion, society and pop culture are explored through the illustrations of Manuel Santelices, a Chilean artist and journalist living and working in New York for the last 20 years. After writing stories about style, design, art and politics for a number of magazines, including the Spanish editions of Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire, and being fashion writer in New York for Vogue Mexico and Latin American for 7 years, Manuel decided to focus his attention to illustration, painting mostly with watercolors the same characters and events he covered as a journalist.
