Description

From a former penal colony in French Guyana to a closed sanatorium in New York Bay, Kiritin Beyer captured how nature reclaims man-made constructions and erases painful pasts. Her images evoke human endeavors colliding with the passage of time. They speak of death and decay, oblivion and history, but also of life and the continuum of time.

Limited edition prints: Every print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.

Print size: 40″ x 40″ (102cm x 102cm) – Edition of 29.

Printing specs: Photographs are printed to the highest industry standard by an experienced fine art printer using Epson inkjet pigments on Hahnemühle German Etching paper (both inks and papers are archival), hand-cut to selected size. The paper is characterized by its matte quality and velvety tactile feel. Its texture brings out the image's three-dimensional effect and depth.

Presentation

Kiritin Beyer was born in Copenhagen to a French mother and a Danish father. After spending part of her childhood in the French Pyrenees, she moved to Paris to join the National Circus School. There she was exposed to the plasticity of the human body, an experience which would later influence her work.

The five years she spent in Paris as a model convinced her that she liked being behind the lens rather than in front. She arrived in New York in 2004 and launched into photography.

In 2012, she won a film grant from BRIC (an arts foundation based in Brooklyn, NY). The same year, she traveled to East Africa with painter Parris Jaru to film “Imagination is Creation.” The short film is nominated in the “Arts” category at the Emmy Awards.

“A Trail of Pigment,” his documentary on natural colors and pigments used in textiles, arts and Ayurvedic practice in India, received the B Free award in the “Artistic and Health” category of the BRIC.

In 2016, Kiritin Beyer made a short film for Les Nubians which mixes their music and the paintings of Parris Jaru. The video has since been screened during their performances in the United States. Kiritin Beyer directed their music video, Libération, and works with other groups including Red Sahara and Oddisee.
