Description
Undergrowth in summer. The high-contrast light, enhanced by the use of infrared film, gives the landscape a stroboscopic effect. Black and white silver print, selenium toning.
This black and white work captures a birch forest with striking precision. The slender tree trunks rise majestically, creating a rhythmic and hypnotic pattern. Light filtering through the foliage casts delicate shadows on the ground, accentuating the intricate texture of the ferns covering the undergrowth. The absence of color intensifies the contrast between the bright sky and the darkness of the trunks, lending an almost dreamlike quality to the scene. The artist demonstrates an impressive mastery of the play of light and shadow, transporting the viewer to a silent and timeless world. This work invites deep contemplation, evoking both serenity and mystery. The harmony between the natural elements is enhanced by the monochrome choice, transforming this simple forest landscape into a powerful artistic expression.
Presentation
"I don't seek to photograph places that are out of the ordinary because of their rarity or exoticism, but rather to sublimate our immediate environment: I strive to capture moments where light and shadows play a crucial role, creating atmospheres that oscillate between the real and the unreal. I work mainly in black and white film, notably using chemical toning to add a timeless and poetic dimension to my images."
