Description
This artwork presents a diptych arrangement, showcasing two figures intertwined with pottery against a fragmented yellow background. Each piece combines photographic realism with a collage technique, where the central figures appear constructed from overlapping segments. The left image features a figure engaged with a large vessel, while the right captures a contemplative pose with arms draped over another pot. The juxtaposition of earthy pottery and the fragmented human forms creates a dialogue between tradition and modernity. The stark white background amplifies the color contrast, emphasizing the warmth of the yellows and browns. The composition plays with perspective and depth, inviting the viewer to explore the relationship between the human body and crafted objects. This artwork is a compelling exploration of identity and time, rendered with precision and creativity.
Presentation
Celso Castro is a reference in Colombian Caribbean plastic arts who has drawn, painted, sculpted and photographed penises for more than four decades.
In his works, Castro exalts the male genitalia, putting into tension the limits imposed by the sex/gender system that are part of an unquestioned patriarchal and phallocentric order. Most men
The ones he portrays are inhabitants of the Colombian coast, also constructing alternative ways of conceiving Latin American identity.
By breaking taboos on corporality and male sexuality, his work has been censored on many occasions due to public accusations of immorality and pornography.
