Description
This black and white photograph captures a striking contrast between the everyday and the monumental. In the foreground, typical brick houses align simply. Their modest architecture anchors the scene in a banal and familiar reality.
Suddenly, a colossal structure emerges in the background. This winged figure dominates the residential landscape. It transforms the horizon and imposes an almost surreal presence.
The image explores the coexistence of the minuscule and the grandiose. The framing emphasizes the disproportion between the human scale and the immensity of the installation. The diffuse light accentuates the textures of the building and the dark metal of the sculpture.
Realized in 1990, this shot testifies to an attentive gaze on urban landscapes. The choice of HD printing preserves the precision of the architectural details. This work is part of an approach to observing ordinary life. The composition plays on a horizon line cut by pointed roofs and a monumental silhouette.
Presentation
Internationally renowned photographer, Nick Danziger has dedicated his work to communities in the four corners of the world, particularly in Central Asia, Africa, and America. He has worked for international organizations such as UNESCO or the International Red Cross, and has gone to meet peoples sometimes totally unknown to the rest of the world. His approach goes far beyond the scope of photojournalism: it is the very essence of the people he photographs that he seeks to capture and fix on film.
